Out of the 10 times that we drove all the way out here and tried to eat here, it was only open ONE of those times. You would think that would teach me to call first before coming, but nope. I guess I don't learn. I'm really glad we were persistent though because that ONE time that I did get to eat there, it was FANTASTIC and totally worth the wait!!
They only sell a few things here, so there's not a lot of chose from, but they make those dishes REALLY WELL! My favorite has got to be the beef short rib pappardelle!! The beef short rib is just out of this world!! It's so delicious! I have no words to describe how tender, well marinated, and party in your mouth this beef is!! And the pappardelle is made to perfection! It's exactly the perfect al dente texture that I love about pasta! You haven't tried Gumba until you've tried their beef short rib pappardelle! All the other dishes were good too but this one really shined!!
This is a food cart so you basically order, find your seat, and then food gets brought to you. Very minimal service. There are other food vendors in that food pod so in case Gumba is closed or you want drinks or other appetizers, there's other options around. There's even a tea house/komboucha place across the street! -

Went to Portland in August and had Gumba on the top of my list after doing some research on Yelp. It ended up being my favorite food experience of the trip and something that we still mention from time to time "hey remember that food cart with the amazing bread?"
If there's one thing you absolutely need to order, it's the fry bread with burrata. It was so rich and decadent and savory and my mouth is watering now just thinking about it. The pasta we had was also delicious. The pappardelle tasted strangely like pepperoni pizza (but in a good way?) and the tagliatelle was really unique and flavorful. I wish we could have tried other pastas but they were all sold out.
In conclusion, COME HERE! Order the fry bread and burrata and a couple pastas, grab a beer from the neighboring cart, and call it a good night. -

We stopped by Gumba earlier this month while visiting from DC after my sister recommended it to us.
My wife and I both ordered the pappardelle because they just sold out of a pesto dish (I think)!
It was great and i ended up having a nice breakfast from the leftovers!
The outdoor seating area was really cool. I only wish we tried the fried bread too -

So.. some of the best Pasta in PDX comes from a food cart? Yes, indeed it does.
I'll keep this short and sweet. Gumba is incredible. Without a doubt, some of the best Pasta I've ever had, and we'll be stopping by to probably try the entire menu next time. The Tagliatelle Carbonara was a dramatic and delicious experience full of rich flavor, perfectly made and cooked pasta, and all the visuals and smells to wrap it all together.
The staff is awesome!! Super friendly, helpful, and exuding pride for what they offer the people. I don't quite know if they realize how incredible their food is.. but if you're reading this- please come and open a restaurant or something in Seattle. Until next time.. Cheers! -

This was the best pasta I've had in my entire life and I lived in Italy for a month (dramatic and extra, but true!!). I found Gumba from an Eater list and wasn't sure if it would live up to their hype, but IT DID.
You order at the truck and the staff is so warm and helpful if you don't know what to try. But honestly, everything is amazing.
We opted for the fry bread (definitely good but could skip if you get full fast on pasta), tagliatelle (AMAZING FLAVORS), and pappardelle (also so so good and more meaty if you're looking for something a little heftier). The food comes out fresh and is plated beautifully (see all photos on yelp). The ambiance of the cart area is great at night if the weather is nice, and they have a little wine truck in the area if you want to grab a drink while you wait too.
